No Pain, No Gain!
This set of photographs of the winners of the 1/2 marathon was made during the 2011 Breda Singelloop. Shooting them out of focus removed all reference to sports, location, context... from the images. This in combination with the almost painterly effect created by the so called "bokeh" of the lens enhances the athlete's expressions and leaves a lot of additional room for the viewer's interpretation.
